4 Sounds You Don’t Want to Hear Your AC Make in Las Cruces, NM

Unusual AC noises are a sign of an underlying problem. Below, we will discuss some common AC noises in Las Cruces, NM and what they mean.

1. Whirring Sound

This noise sounds like rotating helicopter blades. Issues with your indoor or outdoor fans could be causing this noise.

The blower fan motors may have loose bearings, or the fan blades could be loose. A broken belt may also cause the noise. Foreign items such as debris and pieces of paper may cause this noise if they become trapped in the outdoor fan unit.

2. Whistling Noise

A whistling sound can occur when your refrigerant is leaking. The compressor raises the refrigerant pressure as part of the temperature regulation process. As the high-pressure fluid escapes through tiny holes along the refrigerant lines, you will hear whistling noises.

If your air conditioner has trouble pulling air into it to cool it, though, that could also cause a whistling noise. Another common source of the issue is leaking ductwork. Because there are multiple reasons for this (and many other noises), it’s best to enlist the help of a professional for diagnosis and repairs.

3. Rattling Noise

Twigs and leaves may enter your outdoor component and cause a rattling noise when they come in contact with moving parts such as fan blades. Nuts and screws that hold the casing that covers the outdoor component may become loose, too. In that case, as wind blows the loose casing, you will hear rattling noises.

4. Clicking Sound

It is normal for your air conditioner to click when you turn it on and when it shuts down. However, a constant clicking noise may indicate your capacitor is faulty. Thermostat issues may also cause a clicking noise.

Call Sun City Plumbing & Heating for exceptional air conditioning services. Our technicians will repair any problems causing your system to emit weird sounds.
